Day 1

Arrive at Blackrath Farmhouse, we are one hour from Dublin, Relax after your Journey with Dinner in the Priory Restaurant.

Day 2

Breakfast as early as you wish, drive across the Curragh plains and see some of Ireland’s finest thoroughbred racehorses in training on the Curragh gallops. Continue on to the Irish National Stud, explore the history of the horse and Irish racing. Lunch and snacks are available in the restaurant. Afterwards, travel to Kildare Village retail outlet, see if you can find a bargain! On your return journey take the old N7 to Newbridge Silverware and Museum of Style Icons, return to Blackrath.

Day 3

Tour some of South Kildare’s historical and archaeological sites including: Moone High Cross, one of the finest examples of Irish high crosses, travel to Castledermot and see the round tower and two smaller crosses.

Continue towards Athy and on the way stop at Mullacrellin Wood and see the memorial stone to St Laurence O’Toole, first Catholic Archbishop of Dublin who was born in this area. Once you reach Athy, visit the Heritage Centre to view the display of the actual sled and harness used by Shackleton and a Replica of the ship used on the expedition to the South Pole. Returning from Athy, view the Rath of Mullaghmast site of Daniel O Connell repeal meeting in October 1843. Visit Ballitore the village founded by the Quakers in the late 1600’s, the birthplace of Mary Shackleton Ledbetter author of the Annalls of Ballitore, a day to day account of life in the village in the late 1700’s, during the 1798 Rebellion. Visit the Harp Bar and experience an original traditional Irish pub. Dinner in Rathsallagh Golf Club.
